So I need to either get the zf auto box reconditioned in my 2004 30d e53 or trade it in against something else :( I still really love the car and its in amazing condition for the year but just not sure I can justify £2500 on it or not but at the same time cant justify 20k on a newer model x5 for the mileage I do( Im confused ). Can anyone recommend somewhere I can get it done that may have had theirs done with good results?

I had a quote previously from Jason at Chiptune for £1650 - £2500 is expensive and jason comes highly recommended on this forum .....

Thanks for that, I wasn't aware he did gearbox rebuilds, but I'll give him a shout, I could get it remapped at the same time :).  I did a google search for auto box specialists and rang a few best quote was £2400inc vat and worst was £3000  :'(

A complete rebuild including the 'major overhaul' kits on mine was £2,200 7 years ago.  At a guess I would expect they are probably doing the same thing.  Strip the box, replace everything other than gear sets, new torque converter, pump, valves, filters and gaskets.

Came with a 12-month warranty.  The price will depend upon what is being changed and how thorough the work might be.

In my case the labour cost for 17.5 hours was the biggest chunk.

I spoke to Jason today and he has said £1600-£1800 +vat depending on whats needed. I didn't ask about warranty but I'm quite happy with that mainly because of his reputation so I'm sure he would do a good job and replace whats needed and if there are any problems I guess he would sort them.

X5sport, where did you have yours done? and were you impreesed with the results and change to the box afterwards?

Its achevible if you find the right person for the job, does not sound like tc related prob too much pressure or low pressure in the box causing it.
