Now I'm completely confused...........

Just driven a new Range Rover Sport and what a car.

The 3.0 Diesel clearly won't touch the M50d but it's such a great package. TT engine so no slouch and I guess on a par with the 40D? The interior is a step ahead of the BMW however for the money RR won't discount and you get less options.

Possibly changing my mind now.....

A Rangie?  Come on, it'll spend more time being fixed than on the road!

I've got to be honest and I'm more excited about the RR than the X5.

I was really shocked how good it was, how good it felt to drive and the complete package.

It's new and hopefully it'll be bolted together well, it's not a new model so any issues should be sorted out

For the record.....

A mate of mine is on his second new shape one now, his first was an ex demo & paid well over the odds for it as you had to wait around 6 months for them, his was never out of the garage but he got a great trade in on it a few months ago against another one, from what I hear he is not alone, if you only keep it 3 years it will all be done under warranty but personally I could not be bothered with the hassle, they will probably face lift the RRS soon as they have now been out for around 3 years.

I have a 40d m sport x6 & it can shift compared to my 30d x5 I just changed it for, I'm sure your m50 will be awesome.

My experiences as a fleet technical manager put me off RR a long time ago, and nothing I have heard since is likely to change that.  It's still the same workforce in the same factory building against the same limitations in price/quality, just owned by Tata.

The cars may be better ( but from a low baseline!), but the franchised dealers are still poor - mind you I suppose that can probably be said of many dealers regardless of 'manufacturer' if I was to take a more general view.

The tech in the latest RR's isn't a patch on the current BMW's. For example, the sat nav in the RR is total shite. They look nice, but delve a little deeper, and they aren't all that. Stick with the M50.

I looked at the RR before replacing my e70 with an F15. I would without a doubt have gone for the RR had it not been for the fact I would have had to wait 6 months at the time.

I think the RR looks great and I enjoyed driving one, though the middle of the range one was not even as fast as the 30d  F15 I ended up buying (2 kids and a dog mean I don't exactly fly round corners these days).

The comments on reliability are interesting and would concern me if I was making the same choice again - I'd do some digging to get a more objective answer on the relative reliability of the F15 / RRS. No problems with my F15 in the last 2.5 years, but that's anecdotal.

Amused that the Sat Nav in RRS is perceived as Sh1t, because that's my view of the BMW Sat Nav!

Certainly some food for thought , thanks guys  8)

I've got a 24 hour test booked shortly and it will be interesting to see how that goes.

I do have to decide if the RRS is worth paying more for than an M50d.

I took an M50d for a long test drive the other day as I was thinking of chopping mine in.

It's a great car, the new instruments are pretty cool, especially in sport mode.

The equity in my 2013 40d though has evaporated. Even though I put eight grand down on it, I would get zero on a trade in.

With that in mind I cancelled the RRS test drive, didn't seem much point in it.
I do like the look of them though but you get much more for your money with the X5.

Sticking with the E70 for now.

Well I'm totally confused now......

Waiting to have a 24 hour drive of the RRS however my local BMW garage have emailed with an initial offer on a new X5 M50d and their figures make for interesting reading and it appears LR can't get near and refuse to discount.

The BMW is really well spec'd and whilst the RRS isn't poverty spec, it is certainly is some way behind to the point where the difference in price combined with more bang for your buck is probably a no-brainier and BMW win.

Until earlier today I was set on the RRS and I still think it's a great, great car but now.....

BMW have now made a better offer and I suspect I'll have a 50d in my drive in 6 months time

Full spec....

Enhanced Bluetooth
Head-up display
Loudspeaker Harman/Kardan
