Hi all. Again good advice is needed by you guys. I bought a new nissan juke a few weeks ago to replace our run around car, a 3 and half year kia picanto which we owned from new and looked after. 25K on clock & full kia service history and over 3 years kia warranty remaining. Was offered very silly trade in price off £3000 which was upped to £3300 when told it was diamond bright at new. Similar ones for sale in my area are going for around £5000 at the time we put down deposit. Now i could not let it go for that daft price so i kept it and decided i will sell private. Days after we put down deposit, was told there is a chance the wife could be made redundant in July >:D >:D
Now the new juke drives really great and i have to admit its really surprised me how good it is after i have had bad experiences with nissan years ago.! bit higher up driving position and it showing over 50MPG all ready and not done 300 miles yet local driving and lots off gizmos for a medium range car. So i might be tempted to sell the X5 if wife does get bad news in the coming months.
Now this is where i need HELP, my car was an approved X5 when i purchased it and ive only let BMW touch it in my 2 years ownership almost. I renewed the BMW warranty when i had it a year and its due in the next month for service (BIG one & brake fluid) and MOT (only ever touched by BMW Derby from new) So, now summers coming, i guess demand will be down a little and i guess value also, so do i wait until say Autumn time or get rid as soon as serviced & MOT'd ??
Sorry for going on but trying you put you in the picture and thanks for reading it, Mark

The value will have dropped if you wait until autumn, there's always someone looking for a good X5 regardless of the time of year, present it well, price it right and it should sell
Re: To sell or not to sell, now, later, never ??
I don't really see cars as seasonal
Ie people say get better money for convertibles in summer with higher demand but that's the problem there's more to choose from and more competition
E70 isn't a car at the moment where the value will get stronger
There are lots about!
Price it right and there will be a buyer and get a better value rather than later when deprecation hits further
Saying that there are some cars which could be more seasonal or prices going up ie honda s2000, BMW z4m these are strong money
Hope your wife gets goods news and you can decide easier
Motors are replaceable
Sell now and you could always find another at a later time

As said you can always sell a car, traders will always go off the guide price. We buy at top dollar, we PX at trade, usually 2k less than what we think. ( that always winds me up, and I say never again, until next time )
Well kept, FSH doesn't seem to make much difference when selling to the trade.
Private sales on cars over 5K are difficult as Joe public normally has a PX, so they tend to buy from dealers.
Also buyers want a bit of comeback, as we all do if we buy a lemon .
Cash buyers for this sort of price range are few and far between, so a limited market.
Hope your Wife manages to find other employment soon.

Thanks guys, good advice. Think i will advertise it when its serviced and MOT'd and see how it goes as i will have nothing to loose hopefully apart from advertising costs. Even if wife's job is safe, was going to get rid later anyway, hopefully for another X. If it goes can drive the Kia for a while.
Regarding advertising it well, ive picked up a few good tips from this site, one good one is comfort seats which seems a popular extra these days.! I thought they all had it until i read on here.

I never think about selling a car once i buy it. Usually keep cars for many years so depreciation is not a factor. Even if your wife is made redundant, is she likely to remain unemployed for a long time? If not, why change your car setup.
