That's reassuring, because I'm like that too. I'm just about to sell a car - but not util after I've given it an oil change and cleaened up the panel air filters! It's good to know you're not alone

Hey Toonarmy, would love to see the difference the new LCD and ribbon cluster cable makes.
What does the repair/replacement cost?
BTW: how have you wired in the DVD player?

Did you have missing pixels in your cluster or was it just dull?
Mine has all the pixels but could be brighter, can't really see it very well during daytime.
Is your DVD player running through the OEM head unit screen in the front and/or have you installed headrest screens for the rear passengers?

Couldn't see my mileage without a torch lol and lots of pixels missing got DVDs just on head unit but just ordered AV lead to go in boot at the TV tuner and install independant DVD player there with ir eye in front then may consider headrest screens if I keep it

Hiya People,
Greetings from not so sunny Perth, Western Australia - drizzling and slightly miserable for a long Easter Weekend here at the moment

Just recently purchased our first 2006 E53 3.0d and one of my jobs was to replace the LCD screen (sunspots all over it). Thanks to all the info and videos on this site and others, replacement went "fairly" well.
Cost was just over $110AUD (about 58 British Pounds?) from Aliexpress.com here is the link for those interested...
http://www.aliexpress.com/item/Free-DHL ... 85770.html
Please
NOTE: this is for the LCD screen only. This does NOT come with the backlighting and case so there is a bit more fiddling around using your old backlighting. If your unit is dim I would
NOT advise buying this one, just get one of the complete replacement screens with the backlight elsewhere.
After reassembling, I noticed the horizontal position was about 10mm off to the right. The annoying thing is you have to remove again, disassemble and adjust the Horizontal adjustment screw (about 1/4 turn clockwise)
reassemble and re-check >:(
I was quoted about $500AUD to do this job so hell yeah, I was pretty chuffed upon completion

Good luck all, hope others can benefit from my experience.

Glad you got it sorted, and welcome aboard.
We don't have many members from south of the Equator
It's wet and miserable here in the UK too, so don't feel left out!
