Vredestein Ultrac Vorti Tyres on the front...

Post by chubbs » Wed Mar 09, 2016 2:16 pm

I'm putting Vredesteins on the front wheels (rears aren't quite ready yet). The rear wheels have Bridgestones. I'll let you know how I get on ...and if I have any issues with this combination.

Is it my imagination, or have larger tyres become much cheaper over the past 10 years?

Yum yum...

I agree. They do look nice :)

Let's hope they work as good as they look (not used Vreds before - lately I've been happy with Falkens on other cars, but I keep hearing good things about Vreds and I've been promising myself a pair for ages).

I got them where I always get my tyres - www.oponeo.co.uk - they're always a good price and delivery is reliably quick, in my experience. They're a French company*, so if you're prejudiced you won't use them! Personally, I like the French, but I digress. These tyres were sent from Germany and arrived via DPD on the morning of the 3rd working day (standard delivery, not express).

They cost £135 each and I'm getting them fitted/valve/balance for £15 each.

*Edit - This is incorrect - see posts below. Chubbs

I've had 20" Ultrac Vorti's on my X6 since last June (ish) when I ditched the runflats and I have to say I'm well impressed with them (even though they aren't * rated so I guess I'm taking a risk). Grip is excellent in wet & dry, wearing well and they are much quieter (and obviously less harsh) than the runflats. They look good too - designed by Guigario according to the sidewall  :-[
Cheers
Phil.

Oponeo is a Polish company. Vreds are very good tyres.

Oh my goodness! Thanks for that - I've been wrongly thinking they were French for years!

Some good info, thanks.

I think i'll give them a go, rather than the Accelera ones I bought last time. Whilst they're not bad they dont seem to have lasted long, and I don't feel too confident going in to a wet corner. Then again they can be had for £55 which is so cheap for the size.

I think those Vreds are still a good deal considering the size of these tyres.

Only thing is I feel a bit awkward taking them to a garage for fitting. Do they generally mind, or make you feel a bit tight ! ha

My local Halfords & Kwikfit won't do it because they didn't sell me the tyres, but lots of my local independents are happy to fit them. Shop around for the best price.
Garages are adapting to this, as more & more people buy online. Some online sellers (eg Blackcircles) have arrangements with local garages, whereby you can get them delivered direct to the garage and just take your car in at a mutually convenient time.

I've never been made to feel a bit tight. If I was, I'd choose a different garage next time.

Cheers, I did that once, where you have them delivered and fitted at a local garage... the guy asked me why I had  ordered online, and said I should have just come direct. My immediate thought was, why offer the service if you're going to whine about it ?! ha. The fact was that it worked out much cheaper that way.

I think I will initially ask a few garages if they can match the online price (or get somewhere near), and go from there.

Got them fitted today. They have a really nice thick, protruding outside edge, to help protect from kerbing the alloys. No issues driving them home - quiet & stable and they don't seem to disagree with the Bridgestones on the rear.
