New X5 owner oil changes

hi all
recently bought a 2001 X5 3.0i petrol manual.
what i need to know is how much oil do i need to buy to change diff oil and also gearbox oil.

Why do you need to put oil in a manual? It's just a small book, with written information and pictures.
Shall I get my coat?
...actually, I'd like to know the answer to this too. Also, are there any recommended lubricants, or will standard gearbox/diff oils do the job?

AFAIK the fluids may be specific, though not as critical on the manual as they are on the Auto.
There are a few threads on the topic, but mainly for autos which won't be a massive help. :-[
