Selling to Car Buying Websites - My experience

Post by fat-tyre-phil » Sat Feb 27, 2016 2:13 pm

Having decided to sell my 2012 BMW X5 I obtained provisional online valuations from companies offering online initiated car buying services.

We Buy Any Car Dot com provisionally offered an online valuation figure that was less than provisionally offered by Trusted Car Buyers dot com.

I contacted Trusted Car Buyer  dot com who revised their provisional valuation downwards. They made reference to a "finder’s fee” (allegedly an intermediary or broker fee term ? ). After me getting 13 months MOT on the car and swapping back to summer wheels/tyres, I was ready to close a deal as previously arranged. I had to chase this only to be told they did not have a buyer & that the deal could not, therefore, be closed. Lots of effort by me, less than good customer service & my car unsold.

I went back to We Buy Any Car Dot com & sold to them. Their figure was slightly less than Trusted Car Buyers dot com but was agreed after a very thorough but fair assesment of the car. I was more than happy with the deal & the customer service, (as was a relative recently). I will happily consider using them again.

I will definitelty NOT be having future dealings with TrustedCarBuyers.com

Just wanted to share my experiences.

Why would you use a car buying service to sell a BMW X5?

These are desirable cars that sell.

As above I no there can be hassle selling cars privately but as yours was a newish model/marquee  and the price it would fetch you wouldn't have got any/many tire kickers and you would have got top dollar surely.

Never heard of trusted car buyers. WBAC & wewantanycar seem to advertise heavily and are well known. None of them have offered me good values on my cars its always been better to px or sell privately.
