Mark 4 Nav unit.  OEM discs all have postcode included but only the first 6 characters.  It's a BMW problem as they chose not to recognise the UK 7-character system until quite recently.  The last system update - V32 made it better but it still isn't as good as most modern systems.

You can get updates from all dealers.

Thanks x5sport,

Ok so nav unit bit dated, any recommendations for aftermarket head units, without having auto electrician qualification. I don't want cheap and nasty but I do like a bargain.

If you go aftermarket, then surely you will lose iDrive funtionality etc?
The early 2013 update to iDrive software gave 7 digit postcodes in the F25,  i know this as i was very close to buying a 2012 X3 up in Sheffield in August of 2015. The knowledgable sales guy told me  that was the date across all bmw vehicles

He doesn't have iDrive in an e53.

There are other options to get up to date mapping, with full postcode, but they cannot be discussed on the open forum.
