chiptune for brand new x5 and warranty

Hi, while I'm waiting for my new x5 30d to be build, I started thinking about possible re-map to improve mpg/performance, but not sure it it worth doing on a brand new car. Has anyone re-mapped brand new car? Are there any "side effects" - reduced engine life, engine problems and after all - will my warranty be valid after re-map etc...

thanks
acid

As per other email I'd spend the money on the twin turbo in the first place

Yes I've had remapped cars in warranty and never had any problems though it that is the way you want to go

Jason - what does the remap deliver for the 40d? Torque, bhp, fuel economy? Are there any downsides to be aware of and is the warranty still valid?

No warranty is invalidated, if it is found

Dms quoting 360bhp

Don't imagine you will see any fuel gains though

tuning these bmw software is not the problem as they are the same as any bmw ecu software
its getting to the tricore boot pin that a problem

after they are tuned it will not show any extra flash counts using boot mod

355-365bhp is a safe limit,i have seen a lot higher (376 with 680nm)but further testing is needed before im happy at leaving them over the 355-365 mark

as for warranty its down to the dealer if its found out,but if left at a safe tune then you will not have any problems with parts

i have done work for a dealer where i had to open up brand new ecu's and moduals to fix the problems with the car and they still gave warranty with the new ecu and moduals

Avftar has seen me there working
:)

With new bmw you give you key to the dealer where they read all the service info etc. Will key hold any information about the remap or anything which may lead dealer to believe that remap was done?

Can you please PM me price for remap on xDrive 3.0 (2011) - is xdrivers discount still in applicable?

Mine was in for a non related item and they found the map and it is now on all BMW systems that it is a 'tuned car' and therefore warranty now invalidated

Although I agree that most tuners will still go to safe margins, you can still have a drivetrain issue that is not related to the extra power and therefore will not be replaced under warranty

Not something I could personally afford on a £60k motor

To balance the view I have had a couple of things done under warranty post map, one being the wheel bearing which even the dealer didn't think would be covered but it was

Even so the mega expensive bits are the engine and the gearbox!!!

I had a chat with service guy yesterday, asked him about remap. he said that if you bring mapped car for service they cannot do diagnostics as it's sort of tuned for stock map and will not report any problems on remapped car... does make any sense at all cause it doesn't sound right to me :o

We have the dealer tools and don't have any problems communicating with the cars after we have remapped them

We have had a good few that we have seen where the person who remapped them has used a different software or a tuned file that was made for a different car
With these cars we have had problems with communications with the dealer tools

Jason mapped my 4.8IS which went to the Main Stealers for work and a diag and they were able to read that just fine....and no-one from there mentioned it being a tuned car....
