Retrofit External Folding Mirrors

Hi,

Newbie here so please be nice!! I've been lurking around for a few weeks as I work towards buying my F15 40D and i have to say what a great forum this is...it's already saved me just over £700 on stealer insurance for GAP, Alloys etc... so thanks a bunch all for sharing!

Ok, I'm about to collect my 2015 X5 M Sport with (almost) the spec I want. BUT it doesn't have folding external mirrors. I really cannot understand why a car costing this much money and having such a road presence didn't have them as standard.

Does anyone know if they can be retrofitted and where I can get them done? I know you can on older models but cannot find anything on F15 at all.

The dealer says that it's not something that they would do as it would cost a small fortune bla bla bla.

Can anyone help?

Thank you in advance!

I'm in the same position, and agree, it's ridiculous, on such a car, that these aren't standard (that's BMW for you). I've looked around and can't find anything, there isn't a retro fit pack listed on RealOEM.

I've come to the conclusion it'll be a case of buying all the parts, and hoping the wiring loom already has the connectors - however, I've read BMW are now not installing full looms on newer models, so this maybe why the retro fit pack isn't available.

TBH, given the scale of work, I'm not sure I can be bothered. Perhaps BMW will eventually bring out a retro fit pack.

This is why I also spec every "must have" option when I buy because I dont want to have to change the car later.

Only my Z4 Coupe it was missing cruise (initially I thought as an auto it would be ok but as time went on I knew I needed it).
On my X4 the must haves I didnt get were : Surround View (cameras all round) & Speed Limit Display
The nice to have options I didnt get were : LED Headlights, HUD, Lumbar Support, Variable Damper

After 3.5 months of ownership I can say that the Surround View was definitely missed as it may have saved some of the alloys from kerb rash! but is a very very rarely fitted option and cannot be retrofitted.
The Speed Limit Display would have been helpful but was not essential and again very rare and cant be retro.
Of the Nice to haves I think Lumbar support and variable damper probably should have been must haves. The others im not too fussed about. However all in all im happy.

I always hold out for at least 90% of what I want (spec wise) otherwise I keep looking..

Our X5 had the vast majority of our must have, and would like lists. Folding mirrors were on the must have list, but when we sat down to discuss, they seemed too insignificant to miss a really nice motor.

Unfortunately, it's the one thing I still wish we had!

Pretty much the same Jonsteele, has the majority of must haves and odd that someone would have left the folding mirrors off?!

Will just have to fold 'em by hand... ::)

The other great benefit of the auto folding mirrors which doesnt get enough praise is the auto dipping feature on the off side mirror. Its so helpful, especially on the X cars as they are so high.

I miss it when parking my dads A7.

Awesome! Thanks litany as soon as I get it I will.

My delivery has been delayed unfortunately. The stealer is fitting an OEM reverse camera and have now told me that after 3 attempts today they have been unable to get the camera coded!! WTF?!

They say they have submitted the issue to PUMA?? for resolution and are convinced that they'll get it sorted but not in time for me to collect the car tomorrow morning  >:( Needless to say, I'm not happy!! They reckon, that there's a possibility that the "fix" may be recoding that may take 7 or 8 hours from when they start. It doesn't sound right, not that I know how to code an iDrive but, that sounds very much like they really don't know what they are doing? Anyone else have any similar experiences or know any useful info about what the problem could be and how long it should take to resolve?

You know when you've been really looking forward to something and it doesn't happen?!

PUMA is the BMW internal tech support system.

Thanks! Would still love to know how long they are realistically likely to take... :)

I must have been lucky with my retro rear view camera. Took a little longer for the parts to arrive, but was fitted swiftly and works fine.
