Are these mud flaps OEM??

Post by scz4 » Thu Feb 11, 2016 8:25 pm

Nice car and spec, but those mud flaps look a little OTT! Are the BMW OEM?

If removed, can I assume there would be rub marks behind?

Look it, just painted.  Standard fit just black rubber.  Look good actually.

+1 I think the painted mud flaps look good, miles better than the black ones.
The E70 with 20" wheels tend to chip the paint on the doors and arches. BMW dealers have sprayed chip protection clear film on them to prevent this. If you remove them make sure the lower doors etc have the film on them.
Nice looking motor

There might be marks behind, only one way to find out though.. :(

One note of caution.  I had a couple of the rivets go.  They are only available with the full kit, not as a separate repair item. >:(

I have these and non painted

Fitment isn't great on mine from previous owners as there are gaps in the join to bodywork held up previously by I imagine double sided tape, so I can see it had rubbed and marked the bodywork on mine so are staying on for now

Mine have plastic pop rivets in arch holding them into place as well and some are a little loose, so I assume can easily be taken off

I guess having them on saves the paint work and amount of dirt on car

It's these plastic pop rivets that dealers can only get as part of a complete kit, not on their own!  I have tried others from the BMW Bodyshop but they don't hold properly.  And yes the correct fitting uses double sided tape as a seal and the pop rivets to hold everything.

Those are the ones I tried and the correct ones are slightly different.  Longer and larger diameter, not by much but it's significant it seems.

I was getting excited thinking I would try and fix the loose flap then

Could do with double sided tape and pop rivets

So test drove the cat today. Mud flaps were all solid. I actually liked the mud flaps in real life, looks quite purposeful. Don't think I'd choose them, but also I wouldn't remove

I don't know if I should contact the RSPCA, or get you to check your auto correct before pressing the " Post " button
