Hello and help

Post by Cossie d » Wed Feb 10, 2016 9:29 pm

Evening all

My first post

My trusty old diesel x5 has developed a gearbox issue, it's a auto 5 speed early model !!!

Can anyone point me in the direction of anyone who may have a good used box for sale or know someone in the central Scotland area who can repair or recon it at sensible money

Many thanks

Hi

Do a search on here about them.
There is a test procedure that you can try but you need some extra bits.

A cheap box may not be your answer though.
Best to go for the right box.

I can tell you a company in Scotland you should definitely avoid, but I was bought up with if I can't say anything nice, then don't say anything at all....
If things were meant to be easy, then I will soon complicate them....
Please note...
Anything I say is only from my personal experience and knowledge..
I don't assume to know everything, and know there is a lot I don't know..
But then I could be talking bollox.. O:-)

I would change the trans fluid yourself first. Circa £100 and an easy job. It may sort the issue. Mine was juddering and jumping gears and a fluid change fixed it.

I have found an assortment of Gearbox refurb specialists on Flea-By that will do an exchange refit over 24 hrs for approx. £1000 with a 12 month warranty...

Whether there are any nr Scotland or not, I'm unsure, as the ones I found were all In the Greater London area.
I was going to simply grab a B&B for 2 days & chill while the job was being done..as I live 150 miles from London..... it was £5000 cheaper than going the Man Dealer route.
