Ipod installation in an E53 - arm rest

Post by divelab » Sun Jan 30, 2011 9:44 pm

Hi all

has anyone successfully installed an Ipod cable wired through to the inside of the arm rest box -as opposed to the glove box which seems to be the standard method?
or is that just not worth the effort?

If its possible to control the ipod fully from the satnav buttons, then i guess it doesn't matter if the ipod stays in the glove box.
somehow i doubt it...

Keep going! Try the intervention forum and if this is the product for you also keep a look out on eBay. Best solution for iPod integration with your OEM kit. :)

I have just bought one of these of Lez, i'm hoping to install it when I get back to the UK this week. I think I might have to buy a longer cable though so I can run mine to the arm rest. It's either that or buy a dedicated iPod that will stay in the car all the time...

No need turks, mine was installed in the centre armrest with the original cable. It will JUST fit, with reasonable cable length in the armrest.

Thats good to know, i'll have a look at the kit when I get back home then and hopefully i'll be able to run the cables dicretely. Is it a nightmare getting it under the carpets or did you not do it this way?

You have pm btw.

Turks

On newer Ipods/Iphones the cable will not charge it, you will need an adaptor.
They are about £25. I will have a look to see where i got mine from but a google search should find them if you need one.

There are some items in the for sale section that might interest you.

Hi Turks - PM my way? Not seen it if it was sent to me.

The carpet is a pain. You have to get the centre console lose to be able to feed the cable through and the rear bench seat has to be lifted to get the carpet up, plus the rear sill plastic cover to be able to move the carpet around a bit more.
