X3 E83 Tyres

Post by domin8or » Fri Jan 29, 2016 8:43 pm

I know all the horror stories on transfer boxes with mismatched tyres etc. But is there any need for BMW* Rated tyres on std. wheel set up, ie; not staggered ?
I read with interest on some other sites on the 'X3' that problems only arrise on staggered set-ups.

Looking at the BMW rated tyres the efficiency and wet weather ratings are diabolically poor (which I find a joke) so why pay more for a less safe and efficient tyre ?

Thanks

You don't need star rated tyres if running the same size / width / make /profile tyres. But I would replace all your tyres for the same size brand on all 4 wheels.
Star rated are needed on the staggered setup as the tyre widths are different, so the profiles end up different.
Which in turn makes the rolling circumference different, so one axle is turning at a different speed than the other winding the transmission up.
If yours has all the same size/ make and profile tyres on the rolling circumference is the same. Happy days

Thanks 'Horizon' that's what I was hoping. Changing from 17" to 18"(as think 17's look like a skateboard) and will be full new set of tyres.
