A tricky one that.  Although towing on a skinny spare is not illegal, BMW are adamant that it not be used when towing - according to a similar recent question on the Caravan Club.  If it was a rear RFT that failed you may find that the tyre simply would not cope with the load when flat for more than a very short distance, meaning you would have to abandon your 'van' whilst waiting 2 days to get a replacement tyre.  You can't even swap front to rear as the sizes are different!

Manufacturers really didn't think it through when going to skinny spares or RFTs.  The E53 wasn't so bad as the spare was a full size 17" wheel, sadly not the case with later versions.

You might just have to carry a can of goo whilst casting around for someone nearby with an RFT.

Hi Team

On subject of GOO Is the Holts universally used or do some use other types? The BMW tyre inflation kit seems  expensive to me and not sure if it would be effective on the runflats. Would it be better to  change to non runflats or is there no difference putting GOO in to either tyre type?

Depending if it is an E70 or a F15 they did a winter set of wheels that were all offset Et48 they were all run on 255/50/19 tyres and as a none staggered set fit both front and rear . As they are the standard tyres and not a space saver no problems with towing . pm me for styles that fit ?

That should be fine as it is has an et48 offset , it won't fit an X5M though !
