Lower control arm cost

Post by camp freddie » Mon Jan 11, 2016 10:21 am

I need to replace the lower control arms on my E70 as it was an advisory on my MOT. Does anybody have experience of what this would cost at a BMW dealer? My two locals dealers would only give me price if I booked it in for a two hour diagnostic session first which I'm loathe to do as I know what the problem is.

Alternatively, I have priced the parts on Leebmann.de - how hard is this as a DIY?

Thanks.

I seem to think my car needs a pair of these. I was told by a well respected fitter to fit the Mehyle HD arms, as they last longer,, see linky..

Arms alone are @ £80 each.. PLUS fitting... Unless you DIY...

I fitted a pair of the Mehyle HD arms to a E46 i had and they lasted untill i sold the car some 4 years later..

Replacing the thrust/control arms is not a difficult DIY job, I replaced all on my e53 and used Meyle parts which are very good quality ... Replacing the balljoint which is pressed into the hub carrier (if this needs done) is a bitch of a job as more often than not they're seized in place though you may not need this done, I replaced all 4 arms on mine and it totally transforms the cars handling, if you're doing it yourself make sure that the suspension is loaded (car on wheels and lowered) or your bushes won't last long.

I need the front lower control arms replacing on my E70 X5. I've finally been quoted just shy of £1200.00 by two BMW dealerships in the same group. I haven't got an issue with the price if it's the going rate, as they need doing, but I'm just not sure if that's a fair price or not. Thoughts?

Check with the local indy, seems a rip off to me.
