X5m

Post by cameronrobyn » Sat Jan 09, 2016 4:14 pm

Could someone kindly outline the difference with a 2009 and a 2011 version.

Is there anything different?

Thanks Andy

Not sure the X5M got the LCI parts.  The gearbox remained as a 6-sp right up to the F15 as far as I remember.

Ok LCI parts?

My options are 30k x5m which is a 59 plate or look for a 40d or similar?  Do people have experience of both to help me make my decision?

Personally after owning my ml63 and a 35d both pretty similar to your choice if you can afford to run the x5m id go for that, especially while petrol is so cheap! The twin turbo deisels are good but never beat the grin factor of a big v8

Not sure why you would compare the two.  Most go for the diesel for the mix of performance and economy.  The X5M is performance and includes the suductive sound track but at a cost, huge costs, fuel servicing depritiation for example. Me, if the cost was not a deciding factor it would be the X5M.

You cant really compare the two, depreciation wise the x5m's have been hovering around 30k for while now and i've even seen some non auc cars for around 26k, personally i would say the rarity of the x5m may help keep prices up a little, i would drive them both as with my two the twin turbo d was a good all round car but it wasn't even close on performance to the ml63 with the differance in power between my two been around 230bhp, the difference between and a 40d and a x5m been even more, personally i've never driven an x5m but always thought if my ml63 handled like my x5 it would be the ultimate suv (that's where the x5m would fit), day to day running i didn't find that bad averaging probs around 15mpg and i live in a hilly area, and i got around 23mpg on a run as the big v8s are just ticking over at around 70mph, i'm not sure on x5m parts but small items such as discs and pads right round for the merc were £1780 unfitted!!

Thanks for the posts.  the x5m is the car I've always wanted to own and now that I have the chance want to make the right decisions. So the alternative would be the 40d, still a beautiful car in its right but the x5m I'm my opinion would be the ultimate.

Im interested in the ride and I suppose I need to drive each before I choose.  Just wanted to make sure there isn't anything glaringly different that I should be aware of, I.e. Something better on one than the other that could sway the choice.

Shadrack .........yes buddy.  Sold! I know that mate but am I compromising ride for power? Obvious answer is drive both.  But like everything when buying a car the more you know prior.  Cos obviously as soon as I feel the 550 bhp......then in two months I might regret that decision.  Try and be as calm and level headed as possible. Cough cough....

As you've had this hankering for the X5M for so long I would say the only option is the X5M. The 40d may feel good at the start but before long you would be wishing you had got the V8.

You know it is going to be an itch you just have to scratch........ :))

The X5M is a hooligan whereas the 40d is a little more refined and polite in its road manners.....but it still scares hot hatch owners!
