bmw recall

I remember this being well discussed a short while back, car got to go back in ref sat-nav playing up again on start up, lucky for me its in its 11 month since last sorted, so hopefully a freebie repair BUT back to the topic, when i called to book in today, was told there's a recall on my car and the adviser didn't really say to much after this.! After sorting a day out next week for both issues to be sorted, i asked at end for more info on the recall, asking was it a security one ?  Yes it is to do with that after digging in a bit more i find out. So my question is, i thought they got in touch with you if this needed doing ?? or is it just something they will do when car next in for anything ??

Also another quick question. I bought a 2 year service package with car back in may 2014 when purchased my X5. After 1 year off my ownership i took it back for MOT and any service work to be done. Because i have only done about 6K in that year nothing needed doing as it had a service when i bought it. So when it goes in again in May for MOT and service work, again mileage will be around 5 or 6K this year, if it don't flag up some things not ready for service yet, will they do it anyway do you no ??

The recall is an update to the security system.  My X6 had it done recently.  No further info was offered.

In my experience with the service packs on my BMW cars, they won't do it if it isn't due.
