Anyone added a 5th seat
Anyone added a 5th seat
My family situation has changed and now a 5th seat would come in handy. I note there are several places abroad that will do a seat conversion kit, but these all come with a lap seatbelt. I believe the lap seat belts will be an MOT failure here on the Uk. I contacted Revere in London and they will do one for about £1400 with a seatbelt kit taken from an X5. This is more than I want to pay. Anyone changed theirs from 4 to 5 seats and who did you use?

Re: Anyone added a 5th seat
There was linked to for sale on here recently with the conversion completed, the comments were less than positive about the 5th seat..
Re: Anyone added a 5th seat
It's little more than a pad with foam so very uncomfortable and the upright part of the back seat needs strengthening (preferably replacing) as it is not designed to cope with the forces an accident can generate, hence there being no simple OEM conversion.
I looked at it for mine and concluded it was safer not to bother. There wasn't a 5-seat option in October 2010.
You might also find that as the car was only built originally as a 4-seater you could hit insurance issues due to the type approvals. Not sure where you can check this though.

If it was me I would sell a couple of the kids and get them to do this conversion instead of the 5 seats.
