Dash Cam Recommendations/Advice

I've been thinking about getting a dash cam since I bought my X5, but there appear to be a lot of different ones of varying quality available, so would welcome any advice from anyone who has one.

I have done a forum search, but topics  appear to be older, so I'd welcome advice on currently available devices.

Cheers
Rob

I think Richard or Don has a good set up I'm sure they will be along to advise,I've got a cheapie one in mine for now to see how it goes but I'm going to get a front and rear set up and get it "wired" in.

I'm thinking of trying a cheapie one, but at the same time, wonder if it can deliver the picture quality required in the event on an incident.

Have read recommendations to get an HD one to ensure picture quality is fit for purpose.

I have a Roadhawk HD with though very good in the image dept, is unreliable at booting in cold weather <5°C.

I'm going to use a Nextbase 512g in the new car.  It has a very good write up.

I have a couple of Mini 0806 units which have worked very well, no issues and the recordings against the GPS map is a nice feature.

I suggest you have a look around here:
https://dashcamtalk.com/forum/forums/panorama.40/

I have x2 Panorama S in different cars, one for a couple  of years now, they have proved reliable, and support is excellent. Care is needed with cheapos as there are plenty of reports of these overheating, as well as the same camera appearing under various brand names. There are still quite a few cameras that are overly large, and you ideally want something that is (almost) hidden by the rear view mirror. If you can, avoid cameras that are shiny black and/or have bright silver ring around the lens to make it less visible. Most are made in countries where theft from cars appears not be the issue it is here.

Check out after dark performance, bright sun focusing issues, max SD card size

I have a Nextbase 412 in my X - its a Which best buy, good quality and installed rather than trailing wires all over.  Was around £140 with installation another £40- I would recommend it, I tried some cheapies and they were unreliable.

Santa brought me a Nextbase 512G and hardwire kit.......and a memory card too.  :D

If the weather stays dry enough for a couple of hours then I will be installing it.
