Integrated Navigation

I have a 2011 X3 x drive which I bought from new - its a great car. I couldn't afford the sat nav when I bought it so have managed for the last 5 years with a screen mounted Tom Tom.
I was browsing BMW.com when I noticed under 'accessories' it specified an Integrated Navigation - it confirmed that it was available for my car - no price just a message to say contact dealer, which I did. My dealer said it wasn't available so I contacted BMW UK - they also said it was available. So I contacted BMW .com - they said it wasn't available in the UK! but couldn't (didn't want to) tell me in which countries it was available. ( I was prepared to travel into Europe for fitting) BMW UK came back to me with a sort of explanation - first it was because my vehicle had the steering wheel on the wrong side and new hardware wouldn't fit, but when I said that I could have had it fitted from new they changed their mind and said that fitting it retrospectively might damage existing electrics! The lady who I spoke to admitted that she was just passing on information from someone else.
I may be over suspicious but it doesn't seem to ring very true. Is it just hat BMW UK don't want to sell me anything unless it's fitted from new?
So now I've hit a dead end.
Has anyone any advice, information, or experience that will through some light on the issue?
Many thanks

If it is listed as a retrofit kit then it shouldn't be an issue.  If it isn't then they get very wary of doing it, and often refuse point blank because there are no instructions available telling dealers how to do it.  The cost of labour alone is frequently prohibitive (£200/hr around here) for doing this after build so bear that in mind too.
