G-Day
been looking for a aftermarket headunit and trolled this site extensively and found pretty much everything th eUK had to offer except this one...which of coure I like , 2 prices one 70 quid cheaper as its in Hong Kong and subject to pocket ram raiding by Tax munky's, and one for 300 available locally so they had a make offer button and did that so we see here it is
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151874890526
thanx to whomever posted the fix for putting the part that displays the dash editing part into the glovebox..shall be doing that if this unit will not do what it claims..we shall see. no fuss if it doesnt ther is plan B

Done the read-up on this....
Sounds & looks fab... and a direct fit for the junk in my dash currently & I can blue-tooth music from my galaxy fone too... + SD card input, & communicates with everything - even the steering wheel controls & will talk to your fone for calls also... FABBO...
As a comparison - to repair/update my current 11 yr old unit... it would cost £200 for the new maps from BMW, £140 to repair my existing dodgy screen on my Nav display, and it would still be out-dated shiiite afterwards...
This is gonna be Grants' Christmas present to himself.....Yay...

I'm sure I've seen this unit in a X5 and it doesnt quite fit.......check out the lower corners....they'er square while the OEM unit has rounded lower corners and the dash is moulded to suit

Hi, I fitted an earlier model of this unit to my X5 about 12 months ago. Does involve some ruthless cutting of the factory frame to get the unit to fit. It works pretty well, though my voice quality heard by callers is crap. I have experimented with external microphones but still poor. Base memory is a limiting factor for app installation, I am frequently juggling apps to perform updates. This may have been improved on the current unit. The reversing camera function is good, I'd suggest running cable in while you have the dash apart, even if not connecting it initially. I have fitted a 4G USB modem in the glove compartment and the unit works over wifi to that. The supplied navigation program is good (IGO), though I usually use google maps as I am online. When out of mobile coverage I use IGO.
I re-installed my MID in the left hand rear compartment. I do not have factory navigation or the cd changer and the MID fits perfectly in the existing empty frame.

Some listings say HD C+EU MAP and some say HD A+EU MAP
What's that all about C or A?

Can anyone tell me the difference between the unit described by the OP and this one, which is £100 cheaper?...

OPs is Android based and the one you linked to doesn't say - so I'm guessing Windows based :puke:

Thanks for this. Not being a software expert I'm guessing your emoji means you don't recommend Windows-based for a car head unit? Why?

The windows one will probably be fine (I don't have either) - but as a geek I like to tinker with stuff
and the Android one will be much more flexible for that.
And this website is quite useful for info if you're that way inclined!

i have the xtrons but with android lolipop os. only just fitted it as a temp fix, i've got to install crossovers and tidy thw wiring. everything seems to work ok with the exception of the steering controls which i put down to ripping out the dsp and other bits.
it cost me £165 but had a bashed gps input, this was an easy fix.
