Hey Guys and Girls,

Firstly this is my first post so Hi!

Im looking for a V8 X5 at the moment, and I managed to find one that I like, which has zenon headlights which was one of my musts on my list.

Unfortunatly the car in question doesnt have Zenons and I was wondering how hard it is to retro fit them in? Cost? Im not after a kit from japan as it will now fail on a MOT now so must be retro fitted with the installation how BMW would have done it at the factory.

Any advice? anyone done this?

Cheers

Alex

Hi Alex,

Welcome to the forum - don't bother. Too much of a mission to retro-fit...

Here's another X that might interest you (not read if it has Xenons, though I thought all 4.4's did)???

mine just sailed through mot with aftermarket kit fitted!! and same as everything if you are that worried, pull the bulbs and fit halogen bulbs whilst tested, leave ballasts etc in place then once tested, refit xenon bulbs! car only tested in present condition at time of mot. But in all seriousness, should not be issue atall. I have aftermarket headlights suitable for xenon bulbs with correct cut off shield inside etc, and also headlight washer, plus auto levelling motors when i start car so no issues anyway even for regulations.

Does anyone know if all X5s come with the auto leveling headlight systems or just the Zenon versions.

Ive seen that other X5 before, it looks awesome, but too deer for me.

Also, does anyone know if all 4.4s had zenon as standard?

Cheers

Alex

Auto-levelling is a requirement of Xenon Projector headlamps but I can't comment for Halogen as I have never had them. I don't remember my mates X5 with Halogens auto levelling on start-up but that was some years ago.

What is your budget and what spec are you looking for?

Not sure about all 4.4's having Xenons but I know the 4.8's do.

You should be able to find one with that spec but something may have to give... the interior trim is easily swapped or wrapped to change its colour. Sunroof is good but prone to problems - I hardly use mine TBH. If you are searching for cars with Zenons then you aren't going to find many results... try searching Xenon!

LOL Zenon and Xenon, that will be my dislexia coming out again.

Do you know where I am able to find replacement dash trims as I have said no to several cars that have everything apart from the trim, and being able source the correct trim may allow for a few more cars to be worth looking at.

I just have the attitude of, Well Im paying decent money for a car, I would wait till I get what I want, but if it will never happen then I might have to bite the bullet and compremise :(

Defo has to have a sunroof though. All my previous cars had sunroofs apart from the current one, and I really miss having one.
