As an aside I have the deepest respect for those Kukri carrying Nepalese.  They are the scariest troops I have ever met, but really nice people too.

i have worked with the Gurkhas quite alot over the years and must say they are a great bunch of people, friendly, great workers and very respectful. Everytime i go away and find out they are working with me its happy days for me

I remember watching something with the lovely Joanna Lumley and the Gurkhas, it was fascinating.
Their selection process is as tough (if not tougher) than the SAS's.  Think running up Pen-y-Fan with a wicker basket filled with rocks, and that's the easy bit!

A few years a go when I was working in the plant hire industry, we used to provide plant to a company that was renovating a stately home for the owner CEO of a clothing store empire in the UK which was in Cheshire. He had a couple of bodyguards that were ex Gurkhas, they were very polite but had an air of control and menace about them. I was paranoid about doing anything wrong whilst on site incase they took offence.
I'd heard the stories of how the Gurkhas used to creep into German camps during darkness and identify German soldiers by feeling the lacing on their boots before slitting their throats, don't know how true these stories were, but put the fear of God into me
