The battery is the usual cause, but you've had that fixed.

When you start the car do you crank and go, or switch the ignition on, pause while the lights cycle then crank and go?

I used to get this warning and the Dealer advised me to switch on, pause, crank, go.  It allows the computer modules to boot correctly.  Occasionally they get in a tizzy and errors result if you don't allow the pause.

I had this during the warranty period of my E53, again no fault found. They did a software upgrade and never saw it again, but I did do the above as well and wait for the system to initialise before starting.

it can also happen half an hour into a drive on a motorway  on a level road? but it doesnt always do it ??the other day i got it to happen with weight in the back (three adults) as soon as it pinged up i stopped turned off the car then set off again and in exactly 1 mile it would ping up again ! i tried this several times and it pinged up every time , but the next day it wouldnt do it , bmw had the car for two weeks and only got it to do it once they want us to bring it back in again but every time weve took into them it isnt doing it !!!!!    they say they want to inspect it with the fault on the dash ! they are normally a few days in advance for booking the car in , so if i book in today it will be for next week and chances are it wont be faulting around that time and will be left without a car again for a week  agrrrrrhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh >:( >:( >:( >:(
