when you push it across it goes into 'sport mode' auto.....push forward or back and you are in manual tiptronic.....

All that will happen is the box shifts into the Sport/Steptronic mode and it usually changes down one gear (as long as you are below 100mph in 6th......)

The gears will then each be held until higher rpm...even to the red line....before shifting.

Moving the shifter in and out of Sport/Steptronic in motion is normal.  :)

Dont try putting it in reverse or park when driving...

... or rolling.

We had a discussion some time back about the overheating of the gearbox if you left it in neutral when going down a hill or so.

That's a definite do not, unless the box has a 'coast' function, and I don't think that ever existed on any version before the F15.  Coasting is a waste of time anyway as you use more fuel keeping then engine idling!

One minor bit clarification.....When driving long moving selector to left causes boxto enter sport mode whereby revs are higher before gear change. Moving back andforth then causes manual mode to engage with redlining unless changed  up earlier. The box downshifts for you. If yiu go from sport to D it reverts to normal auto  mode.
