Tyre Pressure Monitoring / RFT light.

Evening XDrivers,

I have recently had a problem with my E53, the tyre pressure monitoring / RFT light came on Sunday afternoon after a good run. I checked all my tyres and they all seem to be around 30 PSI – and fairly consistent with each other. I plan to reset the system tonight and check whether the light comes back on, but I was wondering if anyone had any ideas as to what this could be? The previous owner to the car had 3 new tyres of a different brand fitted around 4 months ago, could it be that the one remaining tyre is the anomaly?

Jack.

The tyre pressure light can sometimes come on quite randomly - in most X5s of this age, it works on a rolling radius principle so can be quite sensitive to different tyre makes on each corner or pressures which go a bit low. The 4.6is I think has a different system with battery driven monitors in the tyre caps on each wheel.

The last time I hooked up the caravan my light came on, guess the extra weight on the rear upset it!
