Day two of owning my first x5 and confused

Morning folks
I've owned a few beemers in my time and I'm happy to be back again after a spell in a custom VW T5. I've had a Z4 and a 330d so I was very keen to get back to the 3litre diesel world.

I got myself a 3.0 sd m sport 2008 a few days ago and I'm confused! It's been fitted with a Nokia car kit ck 7w yet it's got the normal built in blue tooth. I thought maybe the Nokia streams music or something but from looking it's simply bt calling. I can't for the life of me figure why someone would fit an after market system when it's got one a,ready built in.

Any ideas? I tempted to just take it out.

maybe they didn't know how to pair it or that it even had it? or their favourite phone was incompatible with the system in the e53?

Does the car kit serve as a phone cradle and charger - two thinbgs the bluetooth arrangement wouldnt do?

I think that car kit does hands free dialling as well - does the standard BMW bluetooth connection allow that - or would it have done that with the phones that were around in 2008?

That's the point. The built in one works perfect and all your contacts appear as you'd expect and all the steering wheel controls work perfectly. The Nokia one is simply a dial and it rings.

I've taken the centre vents out and taken the controller and wires out and hidden the roof mike. I wasn't feeling brave enough to take the stereo out to remove all the wires but it's hidden.

Anyway. Good to hear from you all.

Handy if you want to be able to have your business and personal mobiles on hands free at the same time. Someone always rings you on the phone that's not connected to the Bluetooth.

Hadn't thought about that Horizon. I've always had one phone for both. I'm gonna take the dash out and remove the Nokia kit. I'm assuming it's all ISO leads and connectors back there?
