Interesting article in the motoring press today.  Remapping invalidates your insurance unless you tell them - and apparently there is a legal requirement to do so.  Given that a serious accident could result in an forensic check of your map against the factory recorded map you might have a future issue.

There might be a wider fallout of the VW scandal than was expected with new tests (difficult to see that being applied retrospectively) looking to spot emissions issues - including those resulting from remaps.  At present the access to the OBD2 ports isn't part of the MOT checks, but who's to say what might happen at the next update to that?

If the remap changes the emissions of the vehicle then there is also a potential issue with the vehicle type approval and emission certification.  Remapped cars may need SVAs!  That could mean a simple forensic checksum validation by say the Police/VSA and a cross check would immediately pick it up.  We already know that the BMW servers are capable of wiping a remap as soon as they spot it, simple given codes called checksums are loaded in areas that remappers can't get at.  If the checksum differs then the system assumes a fault condition and reloads the OEM map.

VW may be the trigger for all sorts of unintended consequences.  Be interesting to see how this develops.  It can only get worse for the humble motorist.  It's getting harder and harder to do anything these days. :(

Ok so I picked up the car and seems to be in great condition the only thing i have noticed is that there is some corrosion around the center caps on the rims.  As the car is still under new car warranty for a month I am going to try to get bmw to replace them under warranty.
Is there anything that i should be looking at whilst its still under warranty
I will post some picks soon

thanks for any info in advance
