Thinking of buying E70 X5. Am looking at post 2008 model in view of low emissions and also better mpg. Am not able to decide which to go for. 3.0sd has abotu 3k atleast premium over hte 30d. it means it also has 50bhp more and no other difference, People who have tried both can u advice is 50bhp that much of a difference in 2.5tonne car.
I defo need below options
media package
thrid row seating
seat heating
if it comes with anything else its a bonus.
Look forward for some advice. cheers
BTW i'm based in UK

Introduce yourself fella - we're all friendly and willing to help. And we hope you stick around after taking our duff advice!
If you don't get the SD you'll always be thinking 'what if' - I'd have the SD any day....
It's said by some to be noticeable.

I'm no expert on the E70 but maybe it's worth looking into seeing if anything can be done remap wise.

I only test drove a 3.0d, and it was significantly slower then a E53 3.0d so it would never be for me as it felt heavy and sluggish. Not having driven the sd I can't directly compare, but what others have said it is a very capable car.
Not knowing what you are coming from, it is difficult to compare / advice in a way.

For me the answer would be easy......3.0sd every time. If you are able to afford the premium over the 3.0d then all other running costs, ie. fuel, tax etc. seem to be very close. That said, I'm not sure what difference servicing costs would be or insurance, but as an 'Old Git', insurance is very reasonable these days.

hanks guys, just put a deposit down on a 3.0sd M sport yesterday. 08 plate.done 56k(bit too much mileage for my liking), has 7 seats which I wanted, the usual electric seats/media package/usb audio interface/privacy glass/rear dvd entertainment.19" alloys(not bothered about it), black with black leather with light poplar wood trim. the only thing missing is seat heating. Will post some pics as soon as I get it.Hopefully next week I will be getting del.
Here is the link for the car.

Nice one, a lovely looking motor. That's the sort of mileage I do, I would'nt be too bothered. What warranty are you getting? One year or did you get the dealer to throw in a couple more?

Cracking spec on that car your getting.#
Bet that was pricey new.
I got my E70 from Rybrook Warwick last week, got fantastic service from them unlike Halliwell Jones & Williams who are not very good at all.

Let us know what mpg you get from it, my 3.0d is only getting 25 round town.
Seriously thinking of getting it mapped to increase it.

My 3.0sd is currently running at 25.4 mpg....
Drove the 3.0d that my friend has and the difference is quite noticeable......good luck on the car.....you have made the right choice......
