NEWBIE ALERT!!!

Hello, ladies and gentleman,

My name is James and I am unfortunately not quite a BMW owner (booooo), but am considering an upgrade soon!

The story began about a month ago....

I have a lodger who has just gone and brought a 2015 facelift 135i and since hearing the dolcit tones of a performance engine! I need some fun back in my life. I have driven most cars on the road today through friends and family and am not afraid of a little bit of power! I reckon 365bhp could do the trick!  ;)

I used to have a couple of friends who were fortunate enough to own a couple of X5 4.8is's, I was in love with these cars and thought that they where incredible! They had them from new and I used to ride to school in it everyday. I always said that id get one.

So I was hoping you could help me!

Any advice as I know they can be a problematic car to own and I obviously do not want to be forking out to be having things repaired all the time. I do however appreciate what an amazing car it is!

Also could I ask about MPG, I know that if you have to ask about the MPG then you shouldn't be buying it but in reality what do these cars achieve? Can it be improved with a remap?

Thanks guys!

Lovely to meet you all!

James

Hello and :hi:

A remap can make a difference, but not a massive one.  You are still only averaging in the 20's max and it will depend upon your driving style and journey types.  'Town' driving could well leave you in the sub20s.

There's a thread running on V8s at present so have a read.....along with the sound suggestion above.

I had a 4.8is up until April this year which was featured in BMW Car Mag.  It's a beautiful looking motor and the sound it makes is just intoxicating.

Main issues are if it has Pan roof make sure it's working if not from what I know it's an expensive job to put right.  Make sure the air suspension works and you get the usual suspension wear because it weights a ton.

Tyres are expensive so make sure it has decent tyres.  And just check that the history checks out.

These cars on the 2nd market have had loads of owners so try and pick one up that has been looked after because a lot drop into the hands of people that can't afford to look after them.
