4.4V8 '50' models being recalled

Some of the V8 powered 4.4 Turbo engines used in the n50 type cars across various model ranges/cars are being recalled due to timing chain issues.

Saw a 750 in the shop today with the engine/gearbox/front suspension and bits surrounding it out as the timing hardware is having to be replaced due to a manufacturing defect.

Checks are made on the tension and the tensioner replaced, but if it's out of tolerance then it all has to come out and everything changed.  Looked to be a major (and expensive) job, albeit at BMWs expense!

Certainly worth asking if it has been fixed - dealer couldn't tell me which years were affected.  It depends upon the VIN.

No, this applies to the N63 engine and NOT the S63(X6M/X5M) or the S63tu (M5/M6)
