Am I mad?

Discuss please!

Swapping my beautiful 80k on the clock Le Mans Bule 3.d

Had it two years now and fancy a change.

Also concerned that as it an 06 things might start to go wrong.

It's certainly different.  Looked at one myself but not enough room in the back when a lanky g!t like he was in the front.  Need to get the iSize type child seat in the back (rear facing) and it meant I was squished if a passenger.

Hi I had a look at one last month for wife , seven seats are very tight in the back more for under 7 s which is a shame as they are a great looking package very well made . I specked one up which came to nearly 38k just over 4k more is a 2.5d X5 which is a lot bigger and with 7 seats easier to get in and out of .

Not my cup of tea. Looks wise I feel it is a bit of a non event.

Not driven one so can't comment  on the driving experience or ergonomics. Allegedly some might regard it as a nice enough face attached to a brick like rear.......Practical maybe but so is toilet paper.

With list price allegedly approaching £34k for an Xdrive 220d touring before options added I might be tempted to see  what else my funding would get me.

If a new BMW is mandatory as the replacement then forthcoming X1 25d xdrive might be a better choice & arguably may have stronger residuals....for me in a 2 horse race for my business I would go for the new X1 though I would expect discounts on the car you mentioned but not on a pre-ordered X1 replacement at sale launch.

Yes your E53 will cost more to run & maintain than a warrantied new car but same can be said if you compare your likely costs against any néw warrantied car with similar or better consumption to your E53.

If it's down to Maths alone then the cost of any new replacement calculated per month less costs and future depreciation must ideally be less than projected ownership costs plus depreciation on the E53 (which I accept can vary widely if be accurately estimated if out of warranty).

I did the same, got rid of a perfectly good 55 plate X5, got 7k PX bought a newer Golf 2.0 TD
Really should of kept the X5.
Even if the box goes it will only cast 2.5k for a new one, it will cost you a fortune to buy a car you won't be happy with after a few months.
Money better spent on the X5 . You won't have anyone say to you, wow I like the 2 series, what's it like to drive :)
People say I was mad to get shut of mine. Trouble is I agree :))

Thanks for the replies.  We were supposed to go and look today but decided against it.  The x5 is fantastic to drive.  It's a beautiful car which I have looked after. Think I'll hold on and either buy the e70 40d or the cayenne.

I never realised there was a 2 Series out until i was following something the other day with the BMW badge on it..
Didn't recognise it and it didn't twig until a few mins after i read 235i

Bit slow on the uptake there me thinks!

Either way i didn't like the look of it, and prefer my X
