Perhaps a Disklok would be more effective, again, has anyone used one?

Also, I am looking into a front/rear Dashcam. The company I spoke to said that It would be fine in the new X5 but it may bring up a warning on the dash. Has anyone had any experience with a dashcam?
Sorry for all the questions!

There's a thread in dashcams on here somewhere.

I use a Roadhawk HD powered via a switched live - 12v sockets go off with the ignition which is a pain.  Image quality is very good.  Don't bother with a standard definition camera as the image quality is often far below evidential needs.

Tracker is up to you (and possibly your insurer).  If the car gets nicked with the keys then they don't trigger (some do as a second device is also needed with the keys) so if it vanishes and you don't know for several hours it makes the vehicle harder to trace.

Those with some kind of secondary tag/fob/code etc trigger immediately giving you a better chance.......assuming there is actually a working Police vehicle and it has a crew on board anywhere near you!

Hmm, yes I will go for the Trackstar cat 5 unit that has the dongle. But its a big if because I am not sure that I would want it back if its had damage done to it.
The dashcam is the Thinkware F750 a duel top spec unit. Both of these have been recommended by my dealer.

It was a condition of my insurance with Aviva that I had the Trackstar fitted but I've just renewed with Direct Line and they didn't require a tracker and the premium was significantly cheaper.

I looked at the BMW dashcam system but it was like having a compact camera in the middle of the screen !  Dealer reckoned it was the only option that came with a hidden wiring harness so no option just to get the wiring and fit a Blackvue later.  The car is garaged overnight and I do c 6k miles p.a. so I decided it wasn't worth bothering with in the end.

Cheers. BMW Insurance have quoted me a very good price, and dont require a tracker so I will probably go with them.
The dashcam is not a BMW item and it would be fitted by a BMW approved specialist who reckons it looks very neat and small as it doesn't have a screen. I will look into this after delivery, and this is two weeks today... :)

Whilst I know the genuine BMW advanced eye is not the best to look at, it does have some good qualities. The fact that it shows a blue light to the front and rear, flashes at the front as it detects motion may work as a deterrent.

It has battery management, switching off if it detects the battery is below a certain level (needed on any X5)
With all the modern technology, I don't understand why BMW's need a tracker, I would have thought through the sat nav and connected drive you could place a car accurately.

Why do some insurance Co's want a tracker and BMW insurance don't

In the end, Direct line, churchill and John Lewis as well as BMW Insurance didnt want a tracker but a lot did! I will have a good look at the BMW Cam once I get the car in two weeks. Does it do the rear as well?

Wiring for mine all hidden behind the headlining, a-pillar and inside the dash.

The BMW version originally fitted my E71 but got changed earlier this year and no longer does. >:(
