E53 Service Schedule...

Hmmmm.....I just tried to book my X in for a 'Inspection 2' at BMW main dealer....only to be told that only an oil service is required. Nice - as their cost for an Oil Service (£169) is less, of course, that an inspection 2 (£369)
The service manager explained Service 2 is not required as the E53 X5 service sequence is:
1. Oil Service
2. Inspection 1
3. Oil Service
4. Inspection 2
(then repeat cycle)
Although the car is a 2005 model, its only done 11,500 miles - which means that its been serviced on time (rather than mileage). So, to date, its been serviced just twice under the BMW schedule so far....Oil, Inspection 1....and the next service (its 3rd) will be an oil service (according to above schedule)
Do other owners follow this service sequence....or does experience/knowledge suggest otherwise?!

Hi there,
I have mine oil and filter changed every year, regardless of mileage (also supply to them my oil and filter and ask for the old oil back, to negate environmental disposal charge)
Another tip, do fill windscreen washer to max, I have been charged for a litre of fluid before now!!
Good to have a dealer who is honest re service intervals, he could quite easily have done the sevvice you wanted and stung you for it.

Didn't think these were serviced on time intervals but when the lights on the dash said it needed it? At 11.5k it was probably only due for an oil change anyway, not the full monty of an inspection 2

Good to have an honest garage who didn't just want to take your money
Very low mileage car for the year - won't even be run in yet

You are right - sorry didnt make it clear. The lights on the dash say its due...which prompted me to call the dealer...

Must be like new with only that many miles on it. I could help you put a few more on if you want

You didn't happen to buy that at auction recently did you? Is it Le Mans Blue? The reason I ask is that BMW finance were having a big auction a week ago and I noticed one with that mileage and was tempted to go but mine came up in the meantime.

which isn't as cheap as they say so i would check
with them again.

Hi, no...didn't buy it at auction. I bought it in March 2009 with 6,000 miles. Previous owner had bought it brand new from BMW in Dorchester - and part-ex'ed it after 4 years for a brand new Range Rover. I happened to spot it in autotrader - and thinking there was a mistake in the mileage phoned to check it out. It was as described - brand new. I bought it there and then.

I ended up buying a 54 plate with 13,900 miles on it. I had thought it might have been a mistake too. I was quoted just over £500 for a third oil service and apparently it includes changing the oil separator.

This is the correct service schedules for X5, roughly speaking you should go 20k or 2 years between services. So Insp 2 should be at 80k or 6 years

I was just advised by three separate BMW dealers that there is no Inspection 2 for the E53 X5. Only Oil service and Inspection 1.
With the caveat that at every 3rd oil service, the fuel filter and air filter should be replaced. These components (+labour) make the price of the 3rd oil service greater than the inspection 2! Was quoted between £480-£520.
I even had them double check and this was confirmed on every occasion.
