Immobiliser code

Hi, can anyone give me any advice on the additional immobiliser code that can be setup and used from the control panel. (Where the code must be input prior to starting the vehicle) I want to know if it's worth setting up for additional security or if it's problematic.

What happens if the code is input incorrectly several times?

My worry is I set it up and one day either the code does not work thus me not being able to start the car and secondly how easy or expensive is it to have the code reset if either I forgot the code or a problem developed, eg a flat battery? or would that be something the owner can do.

Regards,

Gareth

I used it once and never bothered again.  The key has a rolling code anyway.  You need to have the right key(s) to start the car anyway.  The car system is alleged to check a code in the key matches the ones paired, plus whatever rolling code has been stored.  If the two match those 'known' by the car then it starts.

These cars are very hard to steal unless you have the key - which is why houses get broken into to get the keys.

If you forget the code, the car won't start and you will most likely need a BMW tech to sort it out.  I'm not sure a battery reset would clear it as BMW might have assumed just such a trick being used by would be thieves!

Fitting a Stoplock is cheaper and stops it being driven anyway  :)
