Start button just clicked - twice now

Two weeks ago, drove to NL, parked up overnight and the next day the car just clicked when pressing the start button. It did it 3 or 4 times and I switched off the airco just in case, and it started absolutely fine.

Last week again, the car had been on the usual charger since I returned form NL and the first press of the start button, again just a click. Again, the airco button was on - I switched it off, tried again and starting fine. No other starting problems afterwards.

Car just ticked over 14k miles now and is always on a CTEC so battery fully charged.

Thoughts?

loose connection somewhere on battery system!! starter not receiving full power.  Check the jump start point in engine bay also, as mine was loose here and causing starting issues similar to yours! get a spanner on the connection and nip up, to be sure.

Interesting point - I always use the jump point for the ctek so could have got a bit lose. Will have a look at that first and follow the starter motor cables along to see if all is tight there.

Never been an issue, just a couple of times now in a few weeks. No error messages either.

Problem with the ac system resulting in a starter inhibit?  Can't think of why though as it's not as if the compressor clutch is engaged all the time - or maybe that is the problem and the car sees the clutch as engaged at start when perhaps it shouldn't be.... ???

Sounds too familiar PVR, mine had no fault codes as such, and would just click! fail every now and then, started getting more frequent until point of failure and a tow to dealership ensued.  They found it straight away after seeing battery was healthy.  I split the connector down in the end and sand papered all the washer / nut / bolt etc, and got it all to fresh metal, then copious amounts of vaseline and never had a start issue afterwards.

Might not be your issue but always worth checking hey.  Nip up with a spanner, mine had a few mm of movement first time round, not much, but enough to cause issues.

Amazing that to look at and feel by hand all would seem well, but putting a spanner on it and getting a few mm movement on the bolt made so much difference!!

With 14k on it? Think when I consolidate cars at some stage (i.e. when TVR's car gets here and there would be 7 then), that I would look at something completely different.

An electric scooter? They'll be having your license of you soon given your recent big birthday.

In fact do you even have a UK licence?

Regrettably, yes - I do have a UK license as I was "forced" to swap mine due to insurance companies in the late eighties refusing to insure a UK car driven by a NL license holder.

I have been trying to swap it back but without a permanent address in NL it is not possible.

They will refuse to insure you anyway soon so hardly a major issue.

On topic - I have now tightened that bolt and will see if that helps. That hole point is a bit wobbly though, I might take it apart and use some of the KY that 535dboy left behind a few weeks back  :))
