Getting my rear tyres replaced on saturday from the good old Dunlop Sportmax r/f's to Toyo Proxes s/t......with the BMW Mobility kit....

My question is......my fronts have got about 3k left on them and was thinking of changing them at the same time as was concerned about the driving feel

What do you guys think...????

I would go for all 4 at the same time. Only one visit to the tyre place :) With only 3k left on the fronts it is probably a good idea to change them as well.

Depends on your fund suitation. If you can afford to change all 4 together and get a geo/tracking done at the same time. Else change the rears, wait 2-3k then change the backs and get geo/tracking done then.

I'd go for the lot at once myself, equal grip/wear from the beginning.

+1 for the lot. I've always found that the wear is pretty even across the set anyway and once they get down to around 3mm I change them to improve wet weather performance against aquaplaning.

Is the load rating on the Toyo's the same as your run flats?

Most manufactures produce tyres with different load, speed ratings but with the same name so make sure they match or exceed the vehicles requirements. Runflats do what it says on the tin "Runflat" letting you get to a garage when you get a puncture.

Do you have a spare !

Just realised what the mobility kit is  for me on that one. But if you want it go to Halfords and look in the pushbike section for Slime. Either way using that stuff youll be hard to find a garage that will go nr it.

If you have a spare then don't worry about the mobility kit.

As for replacing all or just rears, well as you only have about 3K left on the fronts, then definitely replace all at the same time. You can get a better deal on all 4 anyway, plus there isn't massive life left in them. If you had a lot of life left in the fronts then I would just replace the rears.

All four if your budget allows.

You will probably end up changing them if/when it snows again.

Thanks for all your replies guys.....appreciated....I have now decided to bite the bullet and go for all 4, I have read on quite a few sites about the Toyo's and seem to be one of the better tyres out there and are rated up to 130 I think......as the most I have gone to....unofficially is 110, they should be fine........all four fitted for just less than 720 GBP which I am good with...

As for the other bits

Already have a BMW mobility kit from when I went to France in the 530d a couple of years ago, and also as for a garage repairing a tyre.....personally would never trust a repair and would always buy a new tyre after a personal experience involving me.....my 3 series.....a repaired tyre.......M40.....and a 35 foot embankment being scaled........I know that tyre repairs have probably come on since then as it was a few years back but it was enough to put me off repairing tyres.......I dont even do it on my mountain bike....

Currently sourcing two rears from one supplier and two fronts from another - all Toyo's and they come in at £635. Have a local place that will sawp them for another £35 - total to me of £670...

Haven't finished looking yet though!
