Hello all

First time on here so  please bear with me.

I am now the proud owner of a E70 3.0D, as happy as I am I have now come back down to earth, there is no sound from the radio and speakers. It plays CD's but no sound the radio is the same. The iDrive screen is very dim however im looking to upgrade.

As this was an ex POLICE vehicle I have been informed from BMW themselves that they POLICE usually strip their cars bare to allow space for police equipment (e.g sirens and comms and wiring) I have literally looked high and low and still cannot find an amplifier and god knows what else is missing.

The idea is to upgrade to the 8" screen and get all basic work like radio cd dvd and nav..............HELP :bangin: :bangin: :bangin: :bangin:

this is what I found in the left compartment of near tailgate

thanks

No pic

You are going to need to have a look at all of the wiring etc.

As a former Police Comms engineer we did strip everything out but left the wiring itself intact.  It's perfectly possible it just isn't all plugged in again.  For a lot of cars we didn't know what went where anyway.

The cars went to auction and tbh we weren't bothered about what did or didn't work, just that it kind of looked right and filled the holes!  No time given for stripping our kit and fully refitting the OEM stuff.  Just get it through the workshop sharpish.....

Your best bet is to get the head out again and see whether all is well behind it.

Yipe!  Someone took a butcher cutter to the loom.  We used to tuck it out of the way.  :nono: :nono:

You might just have to buy a new loom for that side.. :cry1: :cry1:

No idea what that module is.  Any labels/part numbers?

Ok so it being an ex police car the was so many cables they had installed and when taking off their own equipment they left all the cables behind, hence the 100m worth of cabling :))

Sound wise was a simple fix all the speakers where disconnected and as much to my relief I finally have sound the quality is not great defo need to upgrade.

Thanks

And with all the excess wires removed it's probably faster and more economical too..... :))
