Recently noticed rust on inner tailgate and front drivers door (door rust starting to be visible from outside).
Anyone else seen this and what are your recommendations.
I have just had BMW (Coopers bodyshop of Sunderland) check this and they have taken paint depth and will propose warranty repair to BMW. I will let you know of their feedback.

Wow, never had a spot of rust on My 55 plate E53, some cars that have spent time near the coast can suffer with early signs of rust due to the salt in the air, possibly the previos owner was from a costal area. Just out of interest how long is the paint/ corrosion warranty on a Beemer. Or did you buy a BMW Approved motor?

It's not BMW approved. Warranty is 12 yrs. Not sure if it will qualify for repair. Will keep you updated.

I believe quite a few have suffered with corrosion in the tailgate area as it's prone to water ingress. However, I have never seen it on the doors or sills like that. Will be interesting to see the response - it seems it should be covered given the bodywork warranty.

I'm sure someone on here bought an e53 in the last few months with this same problem From what I remember, it was all sorted via the BMW paint warranty.

My understanding is 12 yr warranty implemented after Jan 2004. My car has full BMW history. Claim in progress with BMW warranty. I'll keep you updated. The body sho says they would not try a repair, but would replace the door and tailgate.

Just got a call from BMW. They agree to replace the bottom tailgate but not agreed to do the door.

Car back from BMW. New tailgate, painted and waxoiled.
Still no luck with the door. BMW say there is a possibility it has been chipped a some point?

One of the E53's I owned had the same issue on the door. The car originated in scotland. It looked lovely on top but underneath it was as rusty as you like . Shockingly so . Guess its the very long winters/salted roads.
Doesn't help but might explain the issue .
Regards
