Seeking some opinions on a wheels change.

So i still have the old girl, eight years now, the longest i've ever owned a motor vehicle!!

Its probably coming up for tyres later this year though the existing are still very healthy currently, i have a neighbour with a near identical car and he's recently fitted some satin black after-market rims, 22's i think. I like the overall look so have been window shopping.

I'm not sure if these suit the E53 though??






......over how the car looks currently. These are actually painted in anthracite, so darker than they appear.



I'd value opinions as the refurbed black wheels and tyre set are reasonably priced, fitted with delivery mileage tyres though are runflats. After selling off my existing wheels and tyres it should be cheaper than just buying new Diamaris all round again and i get a different look for a change.

I like the look of your anthracite wheels. Black look a bit chavvy.  I just had my standard wheels refurbished and should have considered anthracite.

Each to their own. Personally I prefer the anthracite but it your car. Remember though its others that tend to see them not you as your driving

Wouldnt changing your Transmission ratios soo much damaged your transmission, just a though.

He's changing wheels not the transmission?  You just must ensure to match the rolling diameter with the correct tyre profile.  A wrong profile can do damage as well as put the speedo out.

Well thats pretty conclusive.

As the fitted rims are era correct perhaps I'll stay with them after all.  Appreciate the responses

In a few weeks time they will be covered in brake dust and look a dull black anyway!!

Brake dust...been using this stuff for a few weeks, spray on, wait until it reacts with the brake dust and turns purple, then wash off. The result is gleaming, brake dust free wheels!

its ok stuff but it doesnt keep them clean. It just gets them clean quite quickly. Gtecniq is way more expensive but stops it bonding in the first place. That and/or high temp wheel wax means all you need to do is wash them as normal and it all just washes away then you dont need the ironx

I worry about the long term affect of this on your wheels, particularly if you corrosion suspect wheels!!

I was the same, but it's as "friendly" as it can be whilst still doing the job. As long as you don't let it dwell for too long and don't let it dry in direct sunlight it should be OK. If these new wheels corrode however I will probably be keeping the use of Iron X to myself, just in case...

As mentioned above, I would just make sure that there is a thick layer of decent polish on there

You will then find it will almost fall off with the jet wash anyway.

Sorry thought he was thinking about 22" wheels

22" wheels are also be fine as long as the rolling diameter of the tyres was in limit.
