iPhone 6 compatability with iDrive

Hi, just bought my 2nd X5, a 2008 sd.

I have a Y cable, which was with the car, works fine and gives control of iPod through the iDrive.

However, I've bought another Y Cable as I have an iPhone 6. No such luck with this phone, iDrive ignores it.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Simon

Did you buy a new cable because the connector in your Iphone 6 is different from the ipod?

If so, I suppose there are 2 possibilities:

1. The new cable is the problem.
2. The new phone is the problem.

You could maybe buy a little converter adapter from apple
http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MD823 ... in-adapter

and if the old cable plus adapter doesnt work with your new phone then its the phone thats the issue?

Mind you, the connector is £25....

Good luck

Yep, its the lightning connector on the new phone, bought a lead off amazon (£7) rather than from BMW (£50+) as from what I can gather it's essentially the same.

I suspect the lightning connector on the iphone 6 doesn't carry audio.

I'm assuming you have a usb in the cntre console? Mine is a late 2009 and doesnt have one in the centre console but does in the glove box for uploading stuff to the hard drive. Not sure if I can connect to that, of so, I'll get a cable.

Surely if the lightning connector didn't carry audio no docks would work?!  Definitely NOT the connector.

The lightning connector has a chip in it that reconfigures the pins and it may not correctly read the car USB setup so not put the audio onto the correct pins.

Apple never make anything easy do they!
