4.8 info.

I'm getting a bit fed up with trying to locate a decent 4.6is with the added bonus of lpg, another wasted journey today only to find the car not as described, and, the guy that was selling not even there, had to deal with his perma-tanned, track suited, designer trainer wearing, ( could have been knock offs, lol ), brother, not happy.
So, I'm thinking of maybe looking at a 4.8is instead, but I need to know real world mpg figures, I've heard they're not so heavy on fuel as the 4.6, but is this so, and by how much.
Also, is there anything specific to look out for, I know the normal stuff etc, but do these suffer from timing chain tensioner failure and gearbox woes similar to the 4.6.
I'll consider either the E53 or E70, so figures for both would be good.
Off for a large glass of red now!

Hi, it might be a bit of a trawl to find the right car but it's worth waiting for the right one as there were a lot o X5 were built.

The advantage of a facelift is it has six speed auto box compared to the 5 speed in pre facelift, the 4.8 is nice but when I was looking I couldn't find a good car in my price range and ended up with a 4.4 which is still very good and I enjoy it just as much.

It may be worth having a read of the write upon the E53 section and hopefully your budget will allow you a facelift and possibly a petrol one with lpg, or some will suggest a diesel but it just depends on what your needs are, but I love the V8 sound.

There are a couple of of cars on pistonheads I thought there was a blue 4.6 but disappeared and also worth checking autotrader and eBay and on here of course

Hope the search goes okĀ

If you can stretch your budget, you will be better with a 4.8is in my opinion. The MPG is better - I do mainly town driving and the MPG is about 19-20, on a run its about 23-24 so not really much difference. As said above, you will get the better gearbox, and all the other bits added to the facelift which make a difference. Always better to have something a little younger too in my opinion.
