Front Tyres Outer Shoulder Wear

My 2013 car seems to be really heavy on the wear of my 20" front tyres on the outer edge of both tyres. The rears and the inner edge of the front still has about 6mm whereas the outer shoulder is nearly bald.
The car is never driven hard and has only covered 17,000 from new.
Anyone else had this issue? It's going into BM next week for a check over as I am not happy about this level of wear which will cost me £280 per corner.

Common problem, 2 + tons doesn't help. Just changed my fronts for the same reason. Will see if the non runflats wear any better.

Ide suggest taking the car to a good independant.
As if you stick with the BMW specs you will always get this problem.
Ive had my car for about 2 years and just about got the right setup i was after.
I had the car at my BMW main agent for the first batch of settings but they didnt work, still got tyre wear...
Try getting the front toe in, as close to 0.01 as possible. [NOT 0.08]. And the rear camber to the BMW minimum.
The BMW spec range is too wide.

+1 on the indy tracking. Go for someone with a decent machine ( like a huntsman ).
My 2013 ate the front tyres after 9000 miles. BMW checked the tracking and said it was withing specs. I took it to an indy and he confirmed the same. I told him to stay within the BMW specs but go as far as possible the other way. Car feels no different , but I am happy to report the second set of fronts has done 17,000 miles so far and about 50% worn.
Rears have never been an issue.
Regards,
Nat.

Mine went the same way, was eating the outside of the fronts, when they were bald on the outside edge there was still 4mm left in the middle.
Had it aligned and it was all as it should be.

Hi Caesium
I seem to recall reading on the Xoutpost forum that someone had got their local alignment centre to alter the geometry away from recommended BMW settings and had eliminated the wear issue entirely, they went into great detail about the settings, all of which meant naught to me, I'll try and find tge post and send you the link.
Cheers

Recently took my car into BMW to get them to look at my tyres, which are bald on the outside shoulder and still have about 65% tread on the inside shoulder. The alignment is fine apparently.
After much discussion it transpires this is how they are. Hard on the outside of the tyres.
I must say I'm not very happy about replacing two tyres when they have only covered 19,000 miles and still appear to be hardly worn on the inside.

That would be bloody awesome as a friend of mine has a Hunter alignment machine, I can get him to alter the alignment of we know what to align it to..

Here's the before and after readings for the X5.
BMW stated the alignment was fine when I took the car there about a month ago.

That looks a lot better... And i bet it drives a lot better aswell...
BUT
You might want to get the front toe nearer to 0.01 than the 0.06 you currently have,,,
I was told the upper end of the BMW specs was 0.08, and if the vehicle was set to near that it still caused the outer edge wear...
Just my 2pth...

I asked the tech to put it to 0.01 but he set it to 0.06 annoyingly.
