2004 3.0d - remap options?

Has anyone had a remap on a car this old?  Has 100k full service history.

I quite fancy getting a remap but I don't know if I would just be pushing my luck with the turbo and gearbox really?

I'm quite impressed with the performance of the car from a standing start but it seems a bit flat in the mid-range (but I guess it does weigh 2 tons).

Anyone know of anywhere good to get a remap in the West Midlands area ?

I think this is his Website:
http://www.engineperformancechips.co.uk ... Gains.html
The e70 x5 numbers look odd though..x5m has more bhp than that I think!
And no 40d numbers (bhp is about 306 originally I think)

Had mine done over 20k miles ago and haven't looked back! I have had my gearbox rebuilt recently (GM 5 speed), but nothing to do with the remap. No physical damage to it's internals, just valve block seals and clutch packs etc.
Yours should have the ZF 6 speed box in, and they can handle a lot more torque, so shouldn't be an issue on that front.
I get a couple more mpg out of mine if I drive carefully, and overtaking power at mid range is MUCH better than standard. BHP is up from 184 to about 218, and torque up about 20% too. The 2004 model should really be light on it's toes with a remap.
The guy who did mine is up near East Dereham in Norfolk, he's mobile but you can get a 'discount' if you go to him and pay cash ;-)

Has anyone tried a tuning box? Like those on ebay for about £80?

A friend of mine has a thing called a P-Box on his (wife's) 1-series bread van, and that certainly works! They've had that car for a good couple of years now with no dramas. As for those generic things that just over fuel the engine, I wouldn't touch them! Others might have different ideas, mind...

Hi there I brought a tuning box from a company called dtukfor around £350 ish I think and was very sceptical about it but I have been really surprised with the results from it , so would urge anyone to google the company and have a good read about it .

Brought? Sounds a bit pricey, paid lees than £300 for my remap, but good stuff if it works! Do you get improved power and better mpg too- assuming you're not clogging it everywhere, of course ;-)

Yeah it's a type of plug and play box that has different maps set on it so you can choose what you want to gain from it more mpg or more power as i said look on there website and believe me coming from someone that has been in the motor trade for 20 years was very surprised with the results , but basically it just controls how much fuel is put in and when it's put it due to which setting you decide to have it on .

Glad you are happy with it mate but £350 sounds too much for a tuning box, if I were going to spend that much I would get a remap so they can adjust the boost pressures and so on.

The only reason I was looking at a tuning box is the ease (can self-install, no dealing with garages) and the price.... start at about £100 delivered on eBay.  But I'm not sure if that is good value if all that it supplies is a resistor that over fuels it.
