yeah the hybrid was really down to BIK, previously my cars have been owned by me to save BIK and claim 45p a mile. But when looking at the M6gc the bottom line cost to me/co(which is me) were similar, without considering a 3 year FGV of 50% more or less. 

Managed to get a £2k discount on both cars (and we shopped around for more, but unlike BMW they don't give much if any), and a track thing at Porsche track at Silverstone, plus theres the £5k HMRC grant.

The spec I went for was:

white, 20" classic sports black wheels, black/red leather, comfort mem seats, LED lights in black PDLS+, tinted tail lights, privacy glass, monochrome black exterior pack, sport chrono pack,surround view cameras, black pipes, crested headrests, and a crazy white key!
(more or less the demo car)

Didn't bother with the soft close doors or the speed limit advisor that the 6 had, although both were used.

Also arranged for a local detailer to take it and give GTechniq protection, paint, wheels, lights, glass, leather, callipers. (Not the Serum, just C1 and Exo).

Worse part is the wait.

We ordered early Jan, and I hopefully get mine on 8th June.  My biz partner is mid July.

Anyway almost there.

This was at a Village Hotel/Gym.

I had to move my car so he could manoeuvre to roll the Tesla off the back into the charging bay.
He explained the driver had run out of power, so Tesla take a loan car to him, request recovery and stay with his car, then go with the recovery to a charging point, then once charged they then drive to exchange the car.

So its a good service and the driver presumably was a muppet.

But can you imagine driving any car around, knowing there's only very few places you can get power/fuel.

We see Tesla drivers parked here everyday at lunchtime, just sat eating a sandwich in their car whilst its charging.  That's when no one else parked a normal car in the places when there's no other room.

Its not a life for me. But one day, and I am sure it will happen, when they get many more charging points, and when you can charge in 10 minutes, then I would consider one.

As an EV ambassador (self appointed) you have to bear in mind that it's still new tech and other than the obvious dumb driver, there could be other reasons for the vehicle having run out of juice.  I did.  But this was down to a fault with the Chargers main server and therefore not able to confirm I was entitled to use the charger, I too ended up on a low loader.

As for charging at public places, in a Tesla it's a lot less likely to be a necessity due to the 200 miles plus available from a charge.  Most owners have chargers at home and only those on long journeys, working away from home or just looking for free fuel will be using the Chargers. I dropped my daughter off at athletics last night and had to sit around waiting for her to finish.  I could of course sat in the car park board, or go to the local charger, top up for free feeling smug.

EV isn't for everyone, but if you do less than two hundred mile round trips, want a car that's out selling its rivals in the luxury saloon market and costs only a few pounds to top up, oh and can give most sports cars a run for their money in acceleration, then consider the Tesla.

Don't get me wrong Don, for sure its clearly going to be the future.
And as Tesla are investing a lot in the infrastructure like they have in USA, and even the free recovery if your stupid enough to run out of power, it will definitely be a big seller.

We can all breakdown with EV or combustion, but the Tesla rep did say he ran out of juice, tried a to long a trip in one day, and it fell short of what it was originally saying it would do.

It looks good, best one goes a bit too.
So ask me again in 3 years, when I am expecting to be looking at the new 928 (as I am guessing that will be in a hybrid version by then I hope), maybe I will think again.


For the Panamera, really I wanted a petrol car this time, so the Hybrid gave me the petrol engine, plus some electric grunt, plus very low company car tax.

Ok, I didn't realise from the previous post that you had spoken to the guy and been told the driver had pushed his luck.  But then again I've played petrol station bingo.  The Panamara is very capable if a marmite car.  Hopefully the days will fly by and she will be on your drive in know time.  Enjoy the ride and looking forward to seeing the pictures.

Some of you may of seen my post on the 'Land, I am moving away from the E60 and BMW to a Merc C Klasse C350e Plug in hybrid.

Upto 19miles on EV, 280bhp, 0-60 5.9 secs with a petrol 4 cylinder turbo unit.

Hoping to do all the commute and school run on pure EV with the advantage of no range anxiety.

All the best with the new car.  For short runs the EV seems ideal but I wonder how many owners can't be bothered to plug in when the combustion engines makes it to easy.  There's a guy at the wife's work with a company car, a Mitsubishi Hybrid Jeep.  He's getting less than 30 mpg, needless to say the boss isn't happy as it's obvious he's not plugging in.

For me a Hybrid is of little use as I do a minimum of 35 miles on a trip and often more.

For me it would work.

My main office is only 3 miles from home so that would be no petrol for most of the week

If I took it in to the west end to my head office i would save the battery until I got to inner London

Can you do that, ie select to only use petrol motor and save the battery? I can see the advantages if you could.

Yes - On the C350e theres a few ways... first you could plot your route into the SAT NAV and the car will calcuate the route and determine when it plans to use EV only and regeneration, so If you trip is 80% motorway and 20% City it will save enough power in the battery for when you arrive at the city.

Or you can select one of the following modes -


The complex technology of the C350 PLUG-IN HYBRID makes it no more
difficult to drive than a conventional vehicle with an automatic transmission.
But anyone wanting to can also intervene manually and regulate the hybrid
interplay themselves, with the help of five operating modes and three
transmission modes. This is done via an operating mode switch and a
transmission mode switch located in the center console. A display in the
middle of the instrument cluster shows the current setting.
Selecting a specific transmission mode enables the driver to define certain
functions that influence the driving experience.
The following transmission modes are available:

• % Individual: Individual definition of the characteristics of the
transmission mode, including:
- Drive system
- Chassis and suspension
- Steering
- ECO Assist
- Climate control

• ; Sport+: Maximum boost performance, very sporty gear changes,
the combustion engine is always active, particularly stiff suspension
and damping settings.

• Sport: Enhanced boost performance, sporty gear changes, the
combustion engine is always active, stiff suspension and damping
settings.

• Comfort: Boost performance and recuperation optimized for comfort
and consumption, electric drive/ engine shut-off possible up to 80 mph,

shut-off are possible. If the navigation system's route guidance function
is switched on and the Hybrid operating mode selected, the system will
control the charge status of the high-voltage battery according to the
route, ensuring that the electric operating mode is used as far as
possible in built-up areas. The ECO Assist is also active.





In addition to selecting a transmission program, the driver of the C350 PLUGIN
HYBRID can also use the operating mode switch to influence the regulation
between electric mode and the use of the combustion engine for driving. In the
Eco and Comfort transmission modes, the following operating modes are
available:
• Hybrid: All hybrid functions such as electric operating mode, boost and
recuperation are available and are applied according to the driving
situation and route in the most fuel-efficient manner.

• E-mode: Used for all-electric driving – for example in inner-city areas
or because the battery holds sufficient charge for the remainder of the
journey.
• E-save: The charge status of the battery is maintained – for example to
allow all-electric driving in an environmental zone at a later stage in
the journey. Electric driving and the boost function are therefore only
available to a limited extent.
• Charge: Allows the battery to be recharged while driving using the
combustion engine – for example in order to ensure a higher state of
battery charge for later parts of the journey. The combustion engine
remains switched on and fuel consumption may increase. Electric
operation is not possible.
In the transmission modes S+ and S, the "hybrid" operating mode is activated.
In the "Individual" mode, the choice of available operating modes depends
upon the drive system setting.

Basically same in the Pan. Just elec, just engine, both or where elec cuts in if within parameters.

Can't remember exact as its 5 month since I drove it., but I do remember being amazed when the engine turned off and went electric coasting at 70 on a motorway.

As for my trips 6 miles to work. In slow queues and moving at 30. Most days a trip to the gym 6miles.
So I will Prob get almost all on elec. range is 22 depending on driving etc.

As both me and biz partner getting one we will order a port to be fitted at work too. As well as one in my garage. It also comes with a lead for plugging into 240v 3 pin anywhere. Bit Prob not bother with that.
Obviously it can charge itself on the go too.
Which I will make sure always some charge to ensure full boost available for max acceleration when required.
