Aftermarket Sat Dav DVD

Our car was missing the Sat Nav DVD when we bought it. I looked on eBay and found a cheap one, I bought it as I wanted to make sure that the drive works correctly. It seems to work fine. Looking online people seem to be suggesting that non-genuine discs will end up destroying the drive. Is this true?
I would rather buy a genuine copy but I am not going to pay £100s for it. So the option I have is to use the 'aftermarket' disk I bought which has up to date maps or look on ebay for a genuine copy for around £35 which will probably buy me a 2007 disk.
any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Given that the only difference between mass produced OEM discs and any 'other' type is that one is stamped and the other burned I can't see how that will wreck a DVD drive. There is no contact involved.
I suspect that those who have had drive failures would have had them anyway regardless of what was put in.
PS Discussion of 'other' discs is verboten in the Forum. Software piracy etc etc.....

I have had the copy discs fail before, get an OEM one.

Thanks for the replies guys, i managed to get hold of the telephone number for the previous owner. I contacted him and he has both the sat nav dvd and the rear load area cover which is great.
Now all I need is to get a second key made. I contacted BMW and they want £160 for one. Is there a cheaper alternative?

Just an update, I managed to contact the previous owner who had the original (2008) satnav dvd as well as the rear parcel cover. I picked them up from him at the weekend and you will be glad to know I am using a 'legal' copy of the sat nav dvd now.
