Do I have electric folding wing mirrors?!

Bit of a strange one this....

I have no button in the cabin to say that I do and they have never moved themselves before....

But my other half has just rung me in shock to say that she got in the car, started it up and one of the wing mirrors folded open electrically..... I am as surprised as she is!!

There is no button to open or close and they have never done this before..

Can anyone shed any light on this?? She is going to try and simulate this again when she gets to the shops!

I had this feature on a previous E39 but that had a button to open and close them yourself.... Confused!

:)

No button by the mirror adjuster?  Unless a mirror was replaced with a folding one for some reason?

Nope, no button!! That's what's confusing me. I didn't know if they did away with the buttons at some point?...

Very weird....

Even if a mirror was replaced with a folding one, would it not still need the button to work?

To work manually yes.

Electric Folding mirrors were a cost option on the E53.

When you next lock the car remotely with the key fob, keep the button held down for a few second, they may then fold in. I've a button in my car, but found about doing it with the key fob after a couple of weeks of ownership...I did go in and code it so they now fold in immediately on locking the car with the fob - I've zero patience!

^^^^^ Tried this but nothing.

My other half showed me when she got home.

With the seat in "her" memory position, she got in the car, shut the door and started the engine. She then pressed the number one memory button and low and behold, the mirror moved!

Weird.....

When you say the mirror moved  do you mean the glass moved as per adjusting the mirror angle or the whole  mirror and casing folded in/out?

No no... The actual mirror housing itself moved...

And this morning?... Nothing... A little bit of movement and then it stops..... I give up!!

Planning on having some gearbox work done soon so I will see if the coding can be looked at at the same time.

I thought you had a gearbox service done recently ?

I had it serviced last year which sorted out the torque converter issues for a while but they are now back. I am told that torque converters cannot be rebuilt without doing the whole gearbox so it's on the cards soon.
