Updating CIC Professional Nav Maps

Post by X5Sport » Sat Jan 15, 2011 9:41 pm

If you have the newer CIC type IDrive you apparently cannot buy a set of maps for the car.  Instead you pay £168 for the Licence key, £22 for the map data, hand over your car to the dealer for a day and pay a labour charge for the priviledge.

I sincerely hope you get a full system software update at the same time.  The dealer told me it was being done this way as the download was vast and if it goes wrong has to be restarted from scratch.  Also it is an anti-piracy measure.

I think it's just that. They're way to kerb it...

Shame they continue to rip customers off though. That's not more than a 10 minute update (if that)! What with a hard drive, etc

Bet a hacked version won't be too far behind - license key my a$$!

Cough ... I assume you are referring to a legal version of the iso as we can not discuss pirate versions here 8-)

Just doing the update from 2011 to 2014 - and it's an OEM DVD set - on my X6 and after two hours the car battery has died.  The key is only pressed into it's slot, I'm not using the ignition on setting.

So be warned, firstly the update from DVD takes almost three hours - engine on or off - and leaves you with basic functions only, but you would be well advised to put the car on charge whilst you are doing the update unless you are on a long journey.

The car will shut itself down every few minutes but the way around it is to drop a window, close the door and then press the key into it's slot.  It goes without saying that you should only do this if the car is safe.  Of course you can always sit in at and watch.........paint dries slightly faster.

Or you can stay in range of your wifi and watch one of 535dboy's oft advertised entertainments...... :P
