Fitting a reversing camera?

Post by Zonda_ » Sun May 10, 2015 6:22 pm

Hi all,

my dad has just bought an 09 X3 3.0d with the sat nav/tv screen and I was wondering if it's possible to fit a reversing camera and use the existing screen?

Might be a retrofit kit.  Have a look at Realoem dot com and put the last 7 characters of your VIN into the tool to find your model.

Sorry just looked at the year of the car and not the area where posed. Not sure but it might work - just not sure where in the loom you have to tap in. See if you can find an RCM (Radio Control Module) and if it looks anything like the ones in the E53. Then you might just be able to do it.

Do you have a screen fitted as standard then? Need to then work out how to tap into the car if you don't have a TV module. I used the TV module to get the picture up. There is a thread on here if it's of any use.

There is a screen that pops up when you start the car, it has sat nav, TV and shows the radio and telephone functions.

Non standard then.  No pop up system was fitted.  What make is it?

Nope, definitely standard, it's built into the dash, Googling shows plenty of pictures of it.

But you said the screen 'pops up'.  Do you mean it folds out?  If so then not standard.  BMW don't make that type of system.

Ok, it folds 'up' out of the dash then!  Regardless, it's standard BMW.

I stand corrected.  Never seen one that does that. :-[

They've always been 'up' already - can it be locked like that? ???

As Sanj says, the TV module is what you need to find.

I don't know, we've only just got the car so my dad is just getting to grips with it.  It has a rocker switch on the left side that adjusts the rake of the screen.  I'll try and post a pic.

Sorry late to the party. That's just like on our 1-Series. Its the newer generation and you won't get the cable to fit that. You also have fibre optic cabling to your speakers. I'll let you play with that lot! Left mine WELL alone!
